Competing Interests Prompt Culver Emergency Siren Debate
The Town of Culver has some new plans for operating its emergency alert sirens.
During Tuesday night’s Culver Town Council meeting, a debate re-emerged over the use of emergency sirens to alert the community to tornadoes, fire calls, and other testing, but the way in which those sirens are employed has created competing interests.
Culver Considers Emergency Preparedness
Is the Town of Culver ready for a sustained emergency event?
That’s the question Marshall County’s EMA Director Clyde Avery wanted members of the Culver Town Council to ask themselves. Avery presented before the Council on Tuesday both to introduce himself to new members, but also to bring Culver up-to-date on what is expected while preparing for possible emergencies.

Marshall County Commissioners Conditionally Approve E911 Agreement
The Marshall County Commissioners have taken another step toward improving its E911 services.
A contract was reviewed during the Commissioners Monday morning meeting. The agreement is considered the last leg of the work to make upgrades to the service. E911 projects allow the implementation of certain technology to supply the location of emergency callers.

Sunday Time Change Brings Recommendation To Change Batteries
Daylight savings time will begin Sunday, and area emergency management agencies are asking residents to make changes to more than just their household clocks.
The time change officially occurs at 2:00 a.m. when clocks will move ahead by one hour. Emergency Managers from Indiana’s various counties are also advising that residents use the occasion to replace the batteries in their smoke detectors.

Weekend Snow Forecast Creates Potential Problems
Several inches of snow is being forecast on Saturday night and into Sunday, prompting Starke County Emergency Management to be on the lookout.
According to the National Weather Service, Starke County will begin a winter storm watch Saturday night after 6 p.m. Marshall County begins their Winter Storm Watch at 7 p.m. EST.
