Culver Lake Fest Begins Today

The annual Culver Lake Fest celebration begins today with events beginning at 4 p.m. ET at the Culver Town Park.

This year’s Grand Marshal of the parade is Elisabeth Davis. She will be 100 this year and she continues to work in the office at Culver Military Academy. She’s been working there since 1936. Yes, Elisabeth Davis has been employed one of Culver’s largest employers for 81 years. According to an article dedicated to Mrs. Davis’ rich history in in the Culver Lake Fest guide, Jeff Kenney writes that she attended school in Culver and took typing and shorthand which helped her gain employment at Culver Military Academy.

CMA Friesian Mounted Color Guard to Take Part in Chicago Thanksgiving Parade

culver_logoA storied horse troop from Culver Military Academy is once again taking part in a longstanding holiday tradition.

Culver Military Academy’s Friesian Mounted Color Guard will be riding in the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago. This is the third time in the past four years the color guard has participated in the parade. It will be televised regionally, nationally, and streamed online by WGN. Continue reading

Marshall County Safety Commission Sub-Committee to Formulate Crisis Communication

The Marshall County Safety Commission held a discussion on many key issues of emergency planning when they met Tuesday morning.

Troy Heckaman from Culver Military Academy and Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery noted that they were trying to put together a crisis communication plan for each school. Avery said they would like to have representatives from each of the schools to designate a safety person to be a part of a sub-committee that will work on a plan that’s specific to the school.
