Culver School Board May Consider Change to Cavalier Sports Park Funding Mechanism

A technical change is being considered for Culver’s proposed Cavalier Sports Park. The project would upgrade a piece of property owned by the Culver Community Schools Corporation that’s currently used for youth soccer fields, as one of the town’s Stellar Communities projects. Planned improvements include restrooms, a concession stand, a walking trail, and more parking.

Culver School Board Accepts Donations for Reading Program, Costa Rica Trip

Some Culver Community Schools programs will be getting a boost, thanks to a pair of donations accepted by the school board Monday. “Culver’s Lions Club gave the Spanish Club $500 for their Costa Rica trip, and the Culver PTO has given both $500 to the elementary and then to the middle school reading program,” explained Superintendent Karen Shuman.

Culver School Board Approves Elementary School Book Rental Fees

The Culver School Board finalized elementary school book rental fees for the upcoming school year Monday. Fees will vary depending on grade level. Second grade will be the lowest at $84, while kindergarten will be highest at $123. Culver School Board Approves Recreation Easement Agreement for Cavalier Sports Park

The development of Culver’s Cavalier Sports Park cleared another procedural hurdle Monday. The Culver School Board approved a recreation easement agreement. “That is the park that is being developed out here through the Stellar Designation for the Town of Culver and Union Township,” School Superintendent Karen Shuman explained. “Both of them have put money toward developing that park. They just need our easement agreement to make those improvements.”

Culver Community School Board Members Approve Field Trip Requests

The Culver Community School Board members approved a few different field trip requests when they met earlier this week. Superintendent Karen Shuman stated that one of the requested field trips will be funded by the Parent Teacher Organization.

Shuman said, “Our PTO provides behavior incentive trips to multiple students throughout the school year and one that’s coming up at the end of January is a trip to Plymouth for our 6th graders to go bowling as a reward for them doing what they’re supposed to do in school.” Continue reading

New Sign Going Up for Culver Community Schools

Culver Community School Corporation is currently in the process of installing a new sign that better represents the school corporation. Back in September, the Culver Community School Board discussed the design of the sign.

At the Culver Town Council meeting last Wednesday, Superintendent Karen Shuman alerted the board that the old sign was taken down that day and they are planning to have the new one up within the next week. Continue reading

School Bus Safety

The new design of many school buses is causing some concerns about safety. A feature that was installed to give drivers more warning that children are in the area and the bus is about to stop is not being heeded.

In the past, when a bus would stop the arm would come out and the red lights would flash in unison. Now buses feature flashing yellow lights while the driver is coming to a stop, and once they stop completely they hit a button to put out the arm and start the red lights. Continue reading
