Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt alerted members of the Board of Public Works and Safety that all work on the Safe Routes to School project has officially been completed.
Marquardt explained the final step was to receive board approval and get the Mayor’s signature on the project. Board members unanimously approved his request to finalize the Safe Routes to School project.
Additionally, Marquardt opened bids for 2018 fuel and street supplies. The city received two bids for fuel supplies. Continue reading
Co-Alliance to Move into Wickes Lumber Building
The Argos Town Council members approved papers for Co-Alliance to move into the former Wickes Lumber property.
Several commitments will need to be met by the owners of the company to work with the residents in the area. The company will need to maintain the grass and other vegetation on the property as well as the perimeter fence. The company was asked by the town to dim the outdoor lighting around the facility.
Grain Accident Prompts Reminder of Facility Hazards and Occupational Injuries
Last week’s grain elevator accident in LaCrosse has prompted the Indiana Department of Labor to urge employers and employees to review grain handling facility hazards and how to prevent occupational injuries and fatalities. Based on the a consultation from a car accident lawyer, four employees at Co-Alliance were injured in an explosion caused by an industrial accident on April 15.
According to the Department of Labor, the grain handling industry is a high hazard industry where workers can be exposed to serious and life threatening hazards including fires and explosions from grain dust accumulation. Other hazards include suffocation from engulfment and entrapment in grain bins, falls from heights and crushing injuries, and amputations from equipment.
