A recent survey by the Culver Community Schools Corporation shows continuing support for the balanced calendar concept. “There were 190 responses about whether we should continue with the balanced calendar or go back to a traditional calendar,” Superintendent Karen Shuman says, “and the majority are supporting the balanced calendar.”

The Culver Community Schools Corporation is asking for input on next year’s school calendar. “There’s going to be a survey that’s going to go out next week,” Superintendent Karen Shuman says, “to make sure that we get community and parent input on our school calendar for the ’19-’20 school year.” She says school officials don’t have any specific changes in mind yet, but instead would like to make a decision based on the data received from the survey.

The Board will consider the adoption of a balanced calendar for the 2015-2016 school year. The move would put Culver in line with other school corporations in Marshall County, including Plymouth and Triton.

The Triton School Board approved the 2015-2016 school calendar when they met on Monday night.
Superintendent Donna Burroughs said the school board opted to go with a balanced calendar to keep in line with surrounding school corporations.
“It’s only about a week difference from what we’ve had in past years, so it’s not like it’s a whole new creation. We’re just starting one week earlier. With the importance they place on testing, we feel like that gives us an extra to week to work with the kids,” stated Burroughs.

The Culver Community School Corporation adopted the balanced calendar concept last night making it the third school in the area to do so. The school board unanimously approved the plan. Superintendent Dr. Vicki McGuire says a set calendar cannot be made until test dates are released, but the concept will be put in effect.

The Culver School Board will be discussing the Balanced Calendar concept tonight. During the last meeting the board received balanced calendar survey responses from families, students and faculty members. A total of 780 responses were received with 75 percent of the surveys saying yes, they would like to see a balanced calendar implemented. Continue reading

The Culver Community School Board met after the public forum held to weigh the pros and cons of the balanced calendar. The board isn’t ready to vote but is still considering the change in schedules. Culver Community School Superintendent Dr. Vicki McGuire said until other schools in the area have decided, no decision will be made until that point.
Several area school corporations are considering the adoption of a balanced school calendar for the 2015-2016 school year. The Rochester Community School Corporation already has one in place. The Culver Community School Board has a decision to make tonight on whether to switch their 2015-2016 schedule to the balanced calendar. They will meet right after the public forum being held in the Culver Community High School auditorium. Rochester School Corporation Superintendent Janna Vance, plus a principal and a teacher from the corporation will be there to talk about being on a balanced schedule. That begins at 6 p.m. ET.
The Culver School Board members are considering the adoption of a balanced calendar for the 2015-2016 school year. On Nov. 3rd Rochester School Corporation Superintendent Jana Vance, and a principal and a teacher will come to Culver Community High School auditorium to share the pros and cons of the schedule with the public. That forum starts at 6 p.m. ET. The board will then decide on whether or not to switch to the balanced calendar. The balanced schedule still provides the state-mandated 180 days of classroom instruction. School would start about a week or a week-and-a-half earlier than it does now and end at the beginning of June. The schedule would also feature two-week breaks for remediation and vacation in the fall and spring.
