June Rainfall Sets Record, Crop Value Losses Increase
The Indiana State Climate Office says June set a record for rainfall in the Hoosier State.
According to a press release from Purdue Extension, 9.03 inches of rainfall was received around the state. That’s higher than the previous rainfall record of 8.13 inches from June of 1958.
Plymouth Schools Update Technology Use Policy
Students in Plymouth schools will notice a few changes to their technology use policy when they return to school in August.
During Tuesday night’s Plymouth School Board meeting, the Responsible Use Policy was reviewed. The policy is designed to protect the school corporation from liability in the instance their technology is used for harmful or illegal activities and was developed with the help of administrators and the technology department.

Marshall County Agrees to Fight-off Invasive Bush Honeysuckle
The Marshall County Commissioners agreed to manage the spread of an invasive plant species in a local forest.
Bruce Wakeland works with the County through Arrowhead Resource Conservation and Development’s Forestry Committee. He advised the commissioners the time was nearing for a timber sale in the Mill Pond Demonstration Woods.

Keep Yourself Safe from Scams
A local woman recently reported to police that she received some suspicious text messages from a place claiming to be the federal court asking for money to keep her out of jail. After looking into the legitimacy of the claims she deciphered it was a scam. Other scams have also been reported, one being a claim that the recipient had won a monetary prize but needed to send cash in order to obtain the money. The other was someone claiming to be from the IRS threatening to put the person in jail due to back taxes owed in the amount of over $5,000. Marshall County Appoints Representative to RDA Committee
Marshall County now has representation on a board that hopes to attract and retain population in Northern Indiana.
A Regional Development Authority has been formed in Marshall County, along with St. Joseph and Elkhart counties to oversee potential grant funds of $42-million over two years. It’s part of the Regional Cities Initiative overseen by the state which has identified population loss as a threat to economic growth.

Summer Safety – Temperatures Inside Cars Can Easily Exceed 100 Degrees
During the coming months, summer temperatures are expected to soar. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration likes to annually remind care-givers of small children to never leave a child unattended in a vehicle. They reported in this contact form that on a 60 degree day temperatures inside a locked car can get well above 100 degrees very quickly. On hotter days that get up into the 80s and 90s outside, temperatures in a car can be a dangerous 130 to 160 degrees within minutes. These conditions are obviously incredibly dangerous to young children who can potentially die when their bodies temperatures exceed 107 degrees. Heatstroke does not always lead to death but can also cause various other health problems such as permanent brain damage, deafness and the loss of sight. Continue reading
Traffic Stop Leads to Meth Discovery
A vehicle stopped in Plymouth on Friday led to the discovery of methamphetamine.
42-year-old Roger Runyon of South Bend was driving on US 30 around 10:00 p.m. when officers stopped his vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that Runyon was wanted on a warrant out of Fulton County for Failure to Appear in court.
