INDOT Travel Update
As of 9am Central Time 10am Eastern Time: Snow has tapered off and winds are starting to subside. Snow on the ground is very wet and heavy and is packing on many secondary roadways. In Lake, Porter, Jasper, Laporte, Marshall and Fulton Counties, many east/west secondary roads are impassable due to the heavy, wet snow and snow drifts. Also some secondary roads are completely closed in sections due to disabled vehicles. Snowfall totals range from 8”-20” in the district. Primary roads, to include Interstates are in decent to fair shape, mainly wet to slushy. Secondary roads are slushy to snow covered and will need attention most of the day. Continue reading
Widespread NIPSCO Outages Remain
NIPSCO crews are still working to restore power throughout northern Indiana. Heavy snow and high winds brought by yesterday’s blizzard knocked out power to 39,000 customers.
Storm conditions are expected to continue today, with the potential for additional heavy wind gusts through Friday. NIPSCO expects a multi-day cleanup effort. Once the storm subsides, NIPSCO will be able to make a better assessment on estimated restorations times – which could improve or worsen depending on the weather conditions. INDOT Cautions Motorists Not to Travel
Roads across northern Indiana are slick, slushy and quickly filling with blowing snow, according to INDOT officials. They advise moderate to heavy drifting is occurring in rural areas due to gusty winds. Lake effect snow is also falling in Porter, LaPorte and St. Joseph Counties. Travel Warnings Issued for Marshall and Fulton Counties
Marshall and Fulton Counties have upgraded to travel warnings. The “red level” is the highest level of local travel advisory. It means travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. Continue reading

Marshall and LaPorte Counties are under an orange-level travel watches. That means conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a “watch”, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations. Stay Safe When Winter Weather Hits
Significant amounts of snow are in the forecast. Officials with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Indiana State Police recommend avoiding unnecessary travel once the snow starts. If you do have to go out, make sure your cell phone is fully charged. Have a vehicle emergency kit, non-perishable food and bottles of water in your car. Regional Cities Funding Awaits Ways and Means Considerations
Regional Cities Initiative funding may rely on a hearing taking place this week at the Indiana statehouse.
A committee formed by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation selected three plans recommended to the Governor which spans three regions of the state. The goal is to attract and retain young and skilled workers in Indiana.

Culver Reviews Water Shut-off Language in Ordinance Form
The Town of Culver now has language to make the process for shutting off a resident’s water utility access more enforceable.
During the previous Culver Town Council meeting, a policy was presented outlining the process for cutting utility service to a home or residence.
Culver School Board Approves 2016-2017 Calendar
The Culver School Board officially approved the 2016-2017 School Calendar Monday, after delaying their decision due to a conflict with the state’s testing schedule. At the board’s meeting earlier this month, Interim Superintendent Chuck Kitchell told members that the PSAT was scheduled to be given during the time Culver and several other corporations were planning to have fall break. Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter delivered his annual State of the City Address during Monday night’s Plymouth Common Council meeting.
The address aims to update the public of the goings on within the City of Plymouth, but also identify a few goals for the community moving forward. This is the first State of the City Address given by the Mayor since his re-election to the office in 2015.
