Marshall County’s unemployment rate continues to drop. The county posted a rate of three percent for the month of September, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. That’s down from 3.6 percent in August and 3.3 percent in September of 2016.
Plymouth and Walkerton Residents Arrested on Drug-Related Charges in Starke County
Three people were arrested on drug-related charges Saturday morning in Starke County. Around 9:30 a.m., police from the Starke and Marshall county sheriff’s offices say they went to the 11,000 block of 400 North for a wanted person.
Marshall County Natives Graduate from Indiana State Police Recruit Academy
Two Marshall County natives are among the 33 new Indiana State Police troopers sworn in this week. Benjamin A. Beers of Plymouth and Timothy G. Borsa of Bourbon officially graduated from the State Police Recruit Academy during a ceremony at the State Capitol Thursday. It marked the end of 24 weeks of training in criminal and traffic law, crash investigations, firearms, and a bunch of other modern policing subjects, according to ISP officials.
FAFSA Workshops Planned for November, As Part of College Goal Sunday

On Sunday, November 5, students and their parents can get some free help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The Plymouth Community School Corporation has tightened its policies on background checks and drug testing for school employees. State law now requires school employees to have a background check every five years, not just when they’re first hired.
Plymouth School Board Adopts 2018 Budget
The Plymouth School Board formally adopted the corporation’s 2018 budget Tuesday. It calls for a General Fund of just under $26 million and a Capital Projects Fund of over $3 million.

Prosecutor Nelson Chipman and Community Corrections Director Ward Byers announced the new approach in a press release Friday. They say it’s “an evidence based cognitive behavioral program designed to enhance awareness of thoughts and belief patterns to change behavior to one of equality and acceptance.”
The hope is that the treatment will do a better job of stopping offenders from committing more acts of domestic violence in the future.
