September is National Preparedness Month, and FEMA’s Ready Campaign is encouraging all Americans to take preparedness seriously. This year’s theme is “Americans Stand Ready” — a reminder that we can all take pride in protecting ourselves, our families, and our communities.
The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency is doing its part, working to ensure the county can prepare for, respond to, and recover from all types of emergencies. But officials say you can make their jobs easier by keeping yourself and your neighbors safe.
Here’s what you can do: Be in the know — follow your local first response agencies on social media to stay up to date on threats and hazards. Make a plan — include emergency contacts, meeting places, and medical information, and practice it regularly. Build an emergency supply kit with essentials for your family — find a checklist at ready-dot-gov slash kit. And be there for your community — consider learning first aid or C-P-R.
Marshall County E-M-A is currently giving away free N-O-A-A Weather Radios through an A-A-R-P grant, revising county emergency plans, and bringing free public safety trainings to the area.
