The City of Plymouth is providing an update following a safety inspection of the Plymouth Fire Station conducted by the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration — IOSHA — back in June.
An IOSHA representative toured the station and met privately with several firefighters. Two items were identified: annual fit-testing for breathing apparatus was overdue, and the building had no formal asbestos survey on file. Both were corrected on the spot while the inspector was still on site. Because the violations were fixed immediately, no fine resulted.
IOSHA also conducted air monitoring for carbon monoxide. Readings for the three firefighters tested came back at zero parts per million — well below exposure limits.
Mayor Robert Listenberger says nothing matters more to him than the safety of the men and women who serve the community. He says the city is working with architects at American Structurepoint on a long-term plan for the fire station — which is over 100 years old. Listenberger says the process is slow, but he wants to get it right for current and future first responders.
