PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Historical Society & Museum is delighted to announce a fantastic duo of Home Tours for 2026.
The Dietrich-Bowen House in Bremen is a stunning Queen Anne-style Victorian home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built by a prominent early Bremen businessman, John Dietrich, the home was completed in 1901. In 1922, the house was sold to Frank L. Thomas, and then in 1953, sold to Dr. Otis R. Bowen, who used the house both as a residence and medical office before he was elected Governor of Indiana. Bowen later served as the Secretary of Health and Human Services under Ronald Reagan.
Current Owners Michael and Andreea Cope have completed the restoration of the home and consider themselves the most recent caretakers of an Indiana landmark.
The tour will be held on August 16, beginning at 1 p.m. Limited tickets are $20 and are available at the Museum at 123 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, or through our website. This house is a private residence and is NOT ADA accessible. There are several staircases.
The Corbin-Bechaka House in Plymouth is also a local landmark. The Italianate Cube, a popular style from the 1850s to the 1880s, was built by Horace Corbin in 1865. Corbin moved to Plymouth in 1851 and practiced law. He was elected a State Senator, and later became the first Mayor of Plymouth until 1875, when he was appointed judge of the Forty-first Judicial District by Governor Thomas A. Hendricks.
Around 1909, Argos natives Lewis and Leona Hess purchased the property. They made changes, including hiring locally famous stone mason William Foker to add two porches to the house.
The next occupants of the house were Harry and Dimitria Bechaka from Greece. Owners of the popular Candy Kitchen restaurant, the Bechakas nominated the home in 1995 for a Marshall County Landmark award, which it did receive. The most recent owners, Robert Mott and Dennis Baker, have completely restored the home to its former glory.
