County Council ponders tough decisions on taxes

PLYMOUTH – Financial consultant for the Marshall County Council – Steve Dalton of Cender/Dalton – appeared before the board

on Monday to start the discussion on how the county will deal with two upcoming decisions based on recent legislation in Indianapolis.
The first item up for discussion was the Local Income Tax (LIT) of 1.25 percent per payroll check in the county that is set to have the jail portion paid off in early 2027. That could take .25 percent off the tax, but would have a profound effect on the county.

The second item was the Community Crossings grant funds for local governments to improve highway infrastructure, but now has a condition applied by the state legislature.

Dalton urged the Council to take time during the summer to have work sessions involving the Marshall County Commissioners to work through the issues, stating…
