BREMEN — On Sept. 25, at 1 p.m., a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Deputy responded to the report of a suspicious person walking on the railroad tracks in the area of US 6 and Beech Road.
Upon arrival, the K-9 Deputy made contact with a male subject, later identified as 35-year-old Samuel Lian of Indianapolis, walking on the railroad tracks. Upon making contact with Lian, he was asked to stop trespassing on the railroad property numerous times. Lian refused to comply with the officer’s requests and commands for approximately 30 minutes. When officers attempted to approach him, Lian proceeded to resist and batter law enforcement with a deadly weapon.
Utilizing the K-9 patrol vehicle’s remote door opener, K-9 Officer Diesel was deployed and utilized to apprehend Lian.
Lian continued to resist arrest while being apprehended by K-9 Officer Diesel, but was ultimately taken into custody safely without further incident. While in police custody, Lian provided a false identity statement. Bremen EMS arrived on scene and transported him to Bremen Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. He was then transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked for Battery Committed with a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony, Battery Against a Public Safety Official – Level 6 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement with Two Prior Convictions – Level 6 Felony, False Identity Statement – Class A Misdemeanor, Criminal Trespass on Railroad – Class B Misdemeanor, and Refusal to Identify – Class C Misdemeanor. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Indiana State Police, Bremen Police Department, and Bremen EMS.
