The Culver Community School Board took action this week to amend a lease agreement with the Culver Youth Club, according to Superintendent Karen Shuman.
“We update our lease agreement with the Culver Youth Club so that we can further our initiative to acquire Lilly funding for a capital project to build a new building. So we changed that lease agreement from a 30 year lease to a 100 year lease,” said Shuman.
Shuman previously said the project was recently awarded READI funds in the amount of $300,000 and it is awaiting the award of funds from a Lilly grant in the amount of $600,000. The school corporation will be matching the READI funds and private donations will be sought for the remaining funds for the project is projected to cost about $1.5 million.
The new building would house classrooms, a gymnasium, and restroom facilities on the campus of the Culver Community Elementary School. There would be enough space for programs and a possible daytime daycare component. There is an anticipation that the project could start yet this year, depending on the funding.
