
On the morning of Jan. 23 at 2:35 a.m. ET, a Plymouth Police Department officer initiated a traffic stop on Michigan Street in the area of Pennsylvania Ave. for an equipment and license violation.
The driver, 41-year-old Kelly Cowger Jr., of Plymouth, was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, according to the report.
Police say signs of impairment were identified, and Cowger refused a chemical test. After a search warrant was obtained and executed, Cowger was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail and was lodged on a preliminary Level 4 Felony charge of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a misdemeanor charge unlawful possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer, and a misdemeanor charge operating a vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
