Marshall County Commissioners Updated on Owner Occupied Housing Projects

Brent Martin came before the Marshall County Commissioners this week with change orders for the Occupied Housing Repair Project for low-income and elderly homeowners to make necessary repairs to their homes.

In total, three of the house repairs had a slight over run with a total of all three amounting to a total of $3,786.

Martin said that they had applied for an extension for the deadline to use all the funds provided by the IHCDA which was granted until March of 2025.

He said that one project was unable to be completed because of a change. The elderly person who had received the grant for her home was recently hospitalized for significant health problems and as a result, had run into monetary problems fearing that her house would be re-possessed she had transferred the title to her daughter. That meant the house was no longer occupied by the owner and by that technicality was now ineligible for the needed repairs paid for by the program.

Martin said that an effort was underway to try to find a way to have the home approved he didn’t hold out a lot of hope for that and asked the Commissioners to perhaps consider the project under their auspices if the funding couldn’t be arranged.
