Marshall County will continue to have a Plan Director for the immediate future as the Commissioners passed one agreement and heard another to allow Ty Adley to stay on in the interim while the county searches for his replacement.
Adley resigned on Oct. 28 to accept the position as full-time Plan Director for the City of Plymouth. That resignation was to become effective on Dec. 1. With several key meetings of the county Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals on the agenda for the month of December, it left the county without a qualified person to prepare and run those meetings.
While the county has begun the search for a replacement, the process of hiring a new Director couldn’t be completed in the short time allowed. The county approached Adley to ask if he could stay on through those meetings and for the time that it takes to hire his replacement.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger presented the Commissioners with a pair of agreements to retain Adley. Since he is currently working for the City of Plymouth, the first agreement was an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Plymouth to allow Adley to stay with the county as well in the interim. The county had a similar agreement with the city when then-county Plan Director Ralph Booker became the part-time Plan Director for the city.
There was some question about the pay for that agreement that Clevenger said he would look into. The amount was $875 per month and the Commissioners felt the previous agreement was for an hourly rate.
The second agreement was with Adley himself to extend his employment to prepare for the three meetings in Dec. The pay for that would be $1500.
The Commissioners unanimously agreed to pass the agreement with Adley but held off on passing the other agreement for his extension of employment until the pay could be clarified with the city.
