The American Legion Post 27 in Plymouth will present this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony Monday, November 11 at 11 a.m. ET at the Marshall County Courthouse.
Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger will welcome those in attendance and Rev. Michelle Leonard of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren will give the invocation and benediction. The honor guard consisting of members of the American Legion, VFW and DAV will give the traditional rifle salute followed by the playing of Taps.
This year’s guest speaker is First Sergeant Travis Schieber. He is currently the First Sergeant for the 624th Quartermaster Company of the U.S. Army Reserve. He previously served as the Director of Instruction for the 2/100th Military Police Battalion, overseeing Military Police-Advanced and Senior Leaders Courses. In July 2024, he was recommended for promotion to Sergeant Major E-9.
First Sergeant Schieber graduated from Plymouth High School then enlisted in the Army Reserve in February of 2007 and attended Military Police Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.
His overseas assignments included Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Italy. He has earned both an associate and bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Purdue University. First Sergeant Schieber is actively in this first year of Law school, obtaining his Executive Juris Doctorate.
First Sergeant Schieber’s awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army achievement Medal (5th award), Joint Meritorious Award, Meritorious Unite Commendation (Oak Leaf), U.S. Air Force Meritorious Unit Award, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, (5th award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (Bronze Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device and Bronze Hourglass Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4th Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, NATO Medal, U.S. Army Instructor Badge, Foreign Awards: Norwegian Foot March Badge, recipient of Military Police Regimental Association -Order of the Marechausseee.
The Schieber family lives in Plymouth where Schieber serves as a Plymouth Police Officer. His duties include midnight shift supervisor-Corporal, a physical tactics instructor, and field training officer. His previous assignments include SWAT, Sniper, Canine Handler, Mental Health Crisis Interventionist, School Resource Officer and Active Shooter Instructor.
In 2017, Schieber and his canine partner were recognized by the FBI for assisting them in their investigation of a known terrorist.
