The Marshall County Election Board members conducted a public test of selected voting machines Wednesday afternoon in the Marshall County Courthouse.
The board members conduct the public tests to ensure election equipment is properly programmed and functioning ahead of the election.
A percentage of voting machines from the county’s inventory is tested during the public test. The voting machines to be tested are chosen by VSTOP (Voting System Technical Oversight Program) officials and are randomly selected. Five voting machines were randomly selected for testing.
The machines were tested to ensure that each candidate received at least one vote on the ballot styles. The board members verified that each candidate did receive at least one vote each so all was done correctly.
When the test was complete, the machines were reset to zero and were locked and stored.
As of October 1, 609 mail-in absentee ballots were sent out to those who applied for a ballot while 95 of those have been received. The last day to submit an application for a mail-in absentee ballot is Thursday, October 24.
The board reminds candidates that campaign finance reports are due October 18 by noon ET in the Marshall County Clerk’s Office.
