Car, Train Accident Claims Life of Rochester Man

A car vs. train accident claimed the life of a Rochester man Saturday, October 26 in Tippecanoe.

According to Marshall County Coroner John Grolich, the Marshall County 911 Dispatch Center received a call about a car vs. train accident around 10:10 a.m. ET at the railroad crossing near Illion Street at the south end of Tippecanoe. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found a Ford F-150 pickup with heavy front end damage and the driver still in the vehicle.

Emergency responders removed the driver, Maurice F. Horn, of Rochester, and attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports indicate that the vehicle drove around the downed cross arms at the railroad crossing and was on the tracks at the time of impact.

The accident remains under investigation with the Marshall County Coroner’s Office and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. They were assisted at the scene by the Tippecanoe Fire Department, Bourbon Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, and Lutheran Air.
