A Mishawaka woman was arrested Monday, September 2 at 9:24 p.m. ET after a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy conducted a traffic stop in the area of U.S. 31 and Tyler Road.
According to the report, an investigation found that a passenger in the vehicle, 45-year-old Sarahi Portillo Mejia had an outstanding warrant through Elkhart County. Police say it was later learned that she used a false name years prior to avoid this warrant. A more extensive investigation involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, it was found that she also had an immigration warrant.
She was taken into custody for the Elkhart County warrant and was transported to the Marshall County Jail. She is being held with no bond.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
