Plymouth Community School Superintendent Gives Update on Projects

Several projects are continuing at the Plymouth Community School Corporation.

Superintendent Mitch Mawhorter gives an update on the parking lot and sidewalk project at Washington Discovery Academy.

“The Washington project – we’re hoping to wrap that up this weekend,” said Mawhorter. “They’re planning to pave it over the next couple of days and then stripe the parking lots at least by Saturday is the goal. Hopefully we get all of that done.”

Work is also ongoing at the Marshall County Career Innovation Center – a project spearheaded by the Lifelong Learning Network and housed on the campus of the Plymouth High School.

We were hoping to get some parts of it earlier, but there’s a hangup on the door frames. We’re not able to get the door frames until the end of August. That’s kind of slowing some things down and we can’t do the sheet rock unless we have the door frames. It just holds a lot of different trades down, but hopefully by the first of the year we’ll be in all of the new spaces of the Career Innovation Center.”

Mawhorter said that work on Gibson Street is a concern by the Lincoln Junior High School. Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt told MAX News and he is meeting with Plymouth Community School Corporation Director of Safety and Security Ward Byers on Friday to discuss parent drop-off until the work is complete.

Gibson Street is being rebuilt with new pavement, five foot sidewalks and greenspace, and new curbing on the north side. Marquardt said the the road is narrowing as a safety update and there will be an updated intersection with Lincolnway for a safer functioning intersection.

Marquardt noted that work is complete on Laporte Street from Liberty to Kingston. He said there are new sidewalks, curbing, and new pavement.

The Gibson Street project and the Laporte Street project are Community Crossings projects with work being done by contractor E&B Paving.

Superintendent Mawhorter said despite the ongoing construction, the corporation will be ready to welcome students to class Wednesday, August 7.
