Culver Community School Corporation Food Service Director Gretchen Wilson gave the school board an update on the Summer Food Program when the board met Monday, August 5, according to Superintendent Karen Shuman.
“She served over 180 meals throughout the summer of a five-pack meal every week to 180 different families and students,” said Shuman. “With that, we are now eligible for offering our students free breakfast. We’re not quite eligible for the free lunch, but we can give free breakfast for all students for this coming school year. We’re thankful for all of her hard work.”
Additionally, Shuman said the board agreed to provide stipends.
“We’re going to give a $500 stipend to any of our staff that have not taken any sick leave or used unpaid days in the 2023-2024 school year. That was about 12 people that received a $500 stipend.”
The board also discussed an increase in insurance premium costs. Out of a 6.5 percent overall increase, the board agreed to take on all but less than one percent of that increase.
