The Marshall County Election Board members agreed last week to change the location of one of the Bremen Vote Center sites.
Marshall County Clerk Jenny Bennitt explained to the board members that Bremen Public School Superintendent Dr. Jim White asked the board to move the site from the Bremen High School as he was approached by some concerned parents citing student security and safety. While the school system has had a lengthy, positive partnership with the Marshall County Election Board in allowing the elections to be held at the school, which gives students exposure to that aspect of the government process, it is the opinion of the school to elect to move the Vote Center to another site.
Bennitt said she spoke to officials at the Bremen Missionary Church and they have agreed to be a Vote Center host. The church was previously used as a location for election. Bennitt noted that there is plenty of parking and it is ADA accessible. It has all of the requirements necessary to hold a Vote Center at that location.
The board members voted unanimously to move the Vote Center from the Bremen High School to the Bremen Missionary Church. The Pines will also be an available location for a Vote Center in Bremen for the November General Election.
The board members will need to vote on an amendment to the Vote Center plan to accommodate this update, and it will be updated to include the number of voting machines to be used in the election. A meeting is tentatively planned for August 23. The Marshall County Election Board meetings will now be held in the second floor meeting room (Room 203) in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth so the meetings can be live streamed and recorded.
