Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman brought forth a request to the school board members Monday, July 15 from Cafeteria Manager Gretchen Johnson concerning the purchase of cafeteria appliances.
The request was to purchase new ovens, hot water dispensers and new food prep tables for the Elementary School and the Middle/High School. Johnson received bids for the equipment and the lowest came from C&T Design and Equipment in Valparaiso.
Shuman explained the new equipment will replace older appliances in the kitchen that simply need to be replaced and others that have become a safety concern.
Corporation Treasurer/Business Manager Casey Howard further explained that the Cafeteria Fund in the budget is not allowed to have more than three months of allowable expenses. If funds are more than the threshold, it must be spent. She noted that this is the way the cafeteria keeps up with up-to-date appliances and other needs.
The board unanimously approved the purchases at a total cost of $38,529.
