A traffic stop conducted by a deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department resulted in the arrest of a suspected impaired driver.
Police say a traffic stop was initiated Tuesday, June 4 at 9:18 p.m. ET in the area of N. Liberty Street and E. Washington Street in Plymouth. During the investigation, the driver attempted to exit the 2007 Chevrolet HHR. The officer was able to detain the driver and reportedly found him to be under the influence of alcohol.
The driver, Alejandro N. Calix Mencias, attempted field sobriety testing but was unable to complete it, according to the report. He was transported to the hospital where he allegedly refused a certified chemical test. A search warrant was drafted and signed by a judge. A certified blood test was completed and his blood alcohol reportedly showed to be over three times the legal limit.
He was transported to the Marshall County Jail and processed on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle with a BAC of .15 or more and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license.
Formal charges will be determined by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
