A Republican Party Caucus was held Saturday, June 22 to fill a vacancy on the November ballot for Marshall County Circuit Court Judge.

Judge Curtis Palmer retired May 31 and his seat will be on the ballot for citizens to choose his successor.

Two candidates filed declarations of candidacy for the spot on the ballot. Vicki Palmer Atkins and Janette Surrisi were both given a chance to say a few words to the eligible precinct committeemen to vote for the candidate to be placed on the ballot.

After the votes were tallied, Surrisi received a majority of the votes cast by the 27 precinct committeemen in attendance to vote.

The governor will make a judicial appointment for the rest of the year, and the new candidate chosen in the election will take office January 1.
