Members of the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board mounted a brand new plaque to the West Township Trustee’s Cabin after their meeting Thursday, June 6.
The board previously approved the purchase of a metal plaque to commemorate the historic structure at its new home at Memorial Forest.
The Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board recently completed a project to move the historic West Township Trustee cabin from its original location at 10108 State Road 17 across from the former West Township School to Memorial Forest at the corner of 14th Road and State Road 17.
Crews from Yoder’s Log and Timber in Nappanee worked to carefully disassemble the log cabin for its new home at Memorial Forest.
It has been reassembled with new windows, doors and security. It is a feature for visitors to witness when visiting Memorial Forest.
Visitors are welcome to view the structure while at Memorial Forest. A formal dedication event is planned for August. The park board members will iron out details in an upcoming meeting.
