Bremen Town Council Opens Bids for Wastewater Treatment Plant, Interceptor Sewer Project

The Bremen Town Council members opened bids for the proposed new Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Interceptor Sewer Improvement project during their meeting Monday, June 10.

Contract A was for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Only one bid was submitted and it was from Thieneman in Westfield. The base bid submitted was $23,944,000. Alternate bid one was for gravity tank drains for $589,900. Alternate bid two was for an electric motorized gate opener with key card entry system for $38,000. Alternate bid three was for a storage building for $715,000. Alternate bid four was for the demolition of the sand filter building at $160,000

Contract B was bid for the Interceptor Sewer Improvement project. Only one bid was submitted and it was from HRP in South Bend. The base bid was $3,974,150. Alternate bid one was for the abandonment of the interceptor sewer in the woods at a cost of $92,648.50.

The council unanimously approved a motion to take the bids under advisement.

Ken Jones from JPR said they will be meeting with the fiscal advisor to determine the impact of rates for this project. Jones stated before that it appeared that it would be difficult to get bids for the projects due to the availability of companies to do the work as it seems to be the case with similar projects in the area. He thought there would be more than one bid for the projects as contractors asked for more time to provide appropriate bids, but there was only one bid received for each portion of the project.
