Bremen Town Council Adopts Amendment to Ordinance Regarding Trash Removal

The Bremen Town Council members took action last week to adopt an amendment to an ordinance that addresses garbage, rubbish, and other solid waste.

The change pertains to research into complaints from residents at the Bremen Village Apartment complex and other facilities where lessees are being charged by the town for trash pick-up when the service is already included in the lease by a contracted vendor.

Town Attorney Anthony Wagner noted that the ordinance amendment points to a subsection where tenants in multi-family dwellings will not be assessed a bill for trash collection until the municipal trash service is utilized.

The clerk-treasurer’s office is currently working to adjust the billing to accommodate the changes to the ordinance.

The council members did declare the ordinance amendment an emergency and approved it on all three readings, thus adopting the amendment.
