Two LaPaz Residents Arrested on Drug Charges

A search warrant resulted in the arrest of two LaPaz residents Wednesday, May 29.

The Marshall County Drug Task Force, assisted by Net43, LaPaz Police, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth Police Department, and Indiana State Police, executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Hudson Street in LaPaz. During the operation, officers reportedly recovered evidence of suspected methamphetamine and methamphetamine use within the home, as well as a firearm. A child was also removed from the home by the Indiana Department of Child Services, according to the report.

Officers arrested 38-year-old Kathleen Burkett of LaPaz and 53-year old-Michael Heims of LaPaz on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance and neglect of a dependent. They were both incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail and given a $1,500 cash bond.

Formal charges will be determined by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
