Rochester Man Dies in Fulton County Crash

An accident that occurred in Fulton County Thursday, May 16 claimed the life of a Rochester man.

Indiana State Police Troopers from the Peru Post and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident just after 8 a.m. ET in the area of U.S. 31 at Southway 31 in Rochester.

Police say the initial crash investigation indicates that 38-year-old Dewayne A. Hecht from Rochester was driving a 2009 Hyundai Accent westbound on Southway 31. The driver attempted to cross U.S. 31 when a 2019 Volvo semi traveling southbound on U.S. 31 collided with it, causing both vehicles to come to rest south of the intersection, according to the report.

Hecht was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Fulton County Coroner.

The driver of the semi, 53-year-old Remzi Ozturk, of Holland, MI, was not injured in the crash.

This continues to be an active and ongoing investigation, and there is no further information to release at this time. Notification to the family of the deceased has been made.
