Marshall County Council Tables Requests for Additional Funding from Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals

The Marshall County Council tabled an appropriations request by the Plan Commission for $1,500 and $6,000 and the Board of Zoning Appeals for $1,350. The requests were for advertising and legal services.

Plan Director Ty Adley was not present to answer questions, though there was some email communication between President Jesse Bohannon and Adley. The email indicated that the request for funding to cover legal services are in direct correlation to legal services needed to review and consult pertaining to Solar and Battery Ordinances and Projects. About $8,000 was budgeted for the year; and in recent years only half that amount has been needed; 60 percent of the $8,000 has already been used in the first four months of this year. With the anticipated expenses over the next six months, an increase in funding was requested.

The additional for print and advertising is centered around a significant increase in advertising to address any concerns of meeting any legal advertising requirements which has doubled, sometimes tripled, noticing costs. In the first quarter alone, 70 percent of that budget was spent.

Councilwoman Nicole Cox expressed a desire to communicate with Adley and recommended that the three requests be tabled for clarification prior to approval. The motion was approved.

In other news, the Council approved several abatement requests made by the following businesses who successfully met the requirements of the abatements and have submitted their CF-1: Faulkner Fabricating, Center Street Properties LLC (Faulkner), Houin Family Farm LLC, and Homestead Dairy.

The Council also appointed Nicholas Witwer as their representative to One Marshall County.
