Bremen Town Council to Look at Ordinance Regarding Trash Pick-up at Apartment Complexes

The Bremen Town Council members were updated on research into complaints from residents at the Bremen Village Apartment complex and other facilities where lessees are being charged by the town for trash pick-up when the service is already included in the lease.

Town Attorney Anthony Wagner explained that he, along with Bremen Director of Operations Keith Fraine and Clerk-Treasurer Janet Anglemyer, found that an ordinance was set up years ago where residents that are billed for electric service are billed for trash pick-up. More research was not found as the officials in charge of making those decisions years ago are no longer alive.

Anglemyer noted that the council needs to change the ordinance before her office can change the billing.

The property manager at Bremen Village Apartments presented a petition signed from the residents to make changes to the ordinance pertaining trash pick-up.

Wagner said it is a quick change to the ordinance and the ordinance will be amended to be presented to the council for consideration of approval during their next meeting Tuesday, May 28 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

The town needs to re-negotiate the trash contract to remove entities where trash pick-up is not provided by the town. Fraine said he will contact the town’s waste hauler to begin the conversation.
