Argos Town Council Discusses Concrete Work, Community Garden

The Argos Town Council members were presented with quotes for cemetery work when they last met.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney presented quotes from Hensley and Son LLC and Langfeldt Concrete. Mullaney explained that the quotes were for the pouring of 9 more rows of foundations in the new section of the cemetery. This would create 365 more spaces. Hensley and Son LLC submitted a quote of $44,000 and Langfeldt Concrete submitted a quote of $45,448.32.

The council approved the quote from Hensley and Son LLC for $44,000.

Clerk-Treasurer Mullaney also brought up the matter of the Community Garden’s future to the town council’s attention. Pictures were passed to the council members of the state of the garden.

Mullaney said the boxes are in disrepair. Dale and Janelle Blanch have been working in the garden for almost five years. They plant it, pull weeds and fertilize it, but then nobody else comes until the vegetables are ripe. She commented that people complain that there are not enough vegetables available. She added that there are groups and individuals that have done a great job with the garden.

Mullaney attributed the garden falling into disrepair to “a lack of volunteerism.”

Councilman Ed Barcus stated that he believes that the Community Garden has outlived its life. He thinks it should just be removed and made a motion to do just that.

Councilman Robert Byers asked if the garden had been planted and Mullaney confirmed that it had not yet been planted.

The council approved the motion to remove the community garden.
