Plymouth City Attorney Jeff Houin gave the Plymouth City Council members an update on ONE Marshall County when they met April 22.
Houin said the board held its first meeting recently. ONE Marshall County is restructuring from Marshall County Crossroads. A new board of directors will be elected, as well as bylaws as it transitions to ONE Marshall County. Houin noted that the READI 2.0 grant process is in a heightened state to move forward with projects within Marshall County. The Northern Indiana Regional Development Authority was awarded $45 million which includes Elkhart, Marshall, and St. Joseph Counties so qualifying, approved projects within Marshall County will be funded.
There was an effort made at the request of Mayor Robert Listenberger where the Promotion of the City Coordinator Laura Mann contacted every municipal leader in the county to coordinate a meeting for this week to see what a collaboration will look like in Marshall County.
Houin commented, “If that folds into ONE Marshall County and their efforts, that’s great. If not, we’re not waiting for someone to lead that effort. We’re getting started. I’ve been really impressed with the response – almost immediate response from every community in the county saying, ‘yes, we want to be a part it. We want to get together. We want to work together to be competitive and help one another.”
He said the meeting will be for invitees only to see where the collaboration and conversation leads for those leaders in attendance. An update will be given in a future meeting.
