The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety recently approved requests from two organizations.

The board approved the request made by Dustin’s Place Board of Director’s Vice President Noemi Gamel to hold the third annual Join the Journey 5K run and walk on Saturday, May 4. The 5K race will begin at 9 a.m. with the one mile Family Fun Run beginning at 9:15 a.m. Registration is $30. Go to dustinsplace.org to register online. All registrations received before April 19 are guaranteed a race themed shirt. Dustin’s Place provides grief support for children ages 4 through 18 years of age as well as adults at no cost.

The board approved several requests made by Jo Whitesell Fisher of the Ben Fisher Foundation to raise awareness about work zone safety through the month of April. Fisher’s son, Ben, was killed in a work zone accident in 2019 while performing his duties as a traffic control flagger. Fisher will display corrugated awareness ribbons on the lamp posts in downtown Plymouth, banners through River Park Square, and a street banner on Michigan St. to raise awareness for National Work Zone Safety Awareness.

Later that same evening the Common Council also approved Fisher’s application for Exemption from licensing requirements of Ordinance No. 1309 – Benjamin JW Fisher Memorial Foundation to distribute keychains and ask for donations at the four corner intersection of Michigan St. and Jefferson St. on Friday, April 12 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET with a rain date of April 19 and 20. This outreach will correlate with National Work Zone Awareness Week which is April 15 through 19.
