The Culver Community School Corporation will have a new curriculum director and a new English teacher, thanks to action taken by the school board Monday, March 4.
Superintendent Karen Shuman explained to the board that the teachers have expressed a desire to have someone to discuss various topics with them such as new standards being adopted in English and Math, interventions with students, doing standard-based grading, or help write local assessments, as examples. She said it would be better to have someone in a curriculum director position who would not evaluate a teacher later in that role.
This person would also take on the test coordinator position and do some data collection.
The second position is a High School English teacher position in an effort to help with interventions.
The board approved the new positions of curriculum director and English teacher with a unanimous vote.
In other news, the board agreed to release students early from school on Monday, April 8 prior to the solar eclipse. School typically dismisses at the time when the eclipse will occur and Shuman said there are concerns when dismissing students at that time. Shuman asked the board to release the Elementary School students at 1 p.m. ET and the Middle/High School at 1:15 p.m. ET on April 8 and that request was approved with a unanimous vote.
