During the latest meeting of the Argos Town Council, Town Attorney Derek Jones let the Town Council know that there is an issue with some board appointments.
“As I understand it, there are two vacancies and there are two folks that are interested continuing to serve or begin to serve,” said Jones.
The one vacancy is on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). George Null has expressed an interest in continuing to serve on that board.
“We have on the BZA what we call three citizen members, or we should have. And one of those must be a member appointed by the Plan Commission. Two of those must not be members of the Plan Commission. George is on the Plan Commission so he fits that qualification,” said Jones.
Jones informed Council President Erica Partin that the appointment was hers to make. It would be a four-year term.
Partin appointed Null as a citizen member of the BZA.
The other appointment is on the Plan Commission. Jones told the council that Gary Schue had occupied that position due to being a member of the Town Council. He was an official member of the Plan Commission and since he is not an elected official, that position has become vacant. However, Schue expressed interest in continuing to serve. Jones said that the council could appoint Schue as a citizen member. As a Democrat, Schue fits the political affiliation requirements for that vacancy. As President, it was Partin’s appointment. She appointed Schue as a citizen member.
“And we do have two other openings on the Plan Commission. And those two members must be of government,” said Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney.
Council Vice President Shawn Harley said he’d be interested in serving on one of those open seats.
