The young Plymouth High School Debate Team ended the year with two successful tournaments. Under the direction of new coach, Jack Garner, the team did very well at the State Debate Tournament and the National Qualifying Congress Tournament.
At the State Debate Tournament at Kokomo High School, the team finished 12th place, just missing a top ten trophy by half of a point despite only entering students in 2/5 events. In Congress, Mayka Martinez, Tyler Travis and Maddie Harness all broke out of the preliminaries while Travis and Harness broke into the finals. Both juniors, Travis finished 7th and Harness finished 8th.
The World Schools Debate Team, composed of Dariel Herrera, Cassidy Riddle, Katie Fritz, and Aiden Ruiz, broke out of the prelims, earning the 4-seed going into the octofinal round before falling to the eventual runner-up team from Penn, knocking them out of the tournament.
At the National Qualifying Congress Tournament at Concord High School, Plymouth qualified four out of the six qualifiers and won the team trophy.
In the Senate, Tyler Travis placed first and will go to nationals for the second year in a row. In the House, freshman Eva Macey (2nd), and juniors Katie Fritz (3rd) and Maddie Harness (4th) also qualified. This will be the second trip to nationals for both Harness and Fritz. Harness qualified last year in Congress and Fritz qualified her freshman year in Informative Speaking.
