The Plymouth Common Council heard updates regarding the transition from the Regional Stellar Team to One Marshall County and the Comprehensive Plan.
City of Plymouth Attorney Jeff Houin reminded the council that Ginny Bess Munroe approached the council in August of 2023 to discuss the transition of Crossroads to One Marshall County. In summary, the volunteers responsible for steering the Regional Stellar Initiative want to transition to a paid position structure with an Executive Director and several other positions to alleviate some of the demand on their time and energy as volunteers while at the same time sustaining the momentum that the grant funding has had on improving the quality of life for all of Marshall County.
Five pillars of focus will include Economic Development, Workforce Education, Quality of Place, Housing, and Quality of Life. Some of those pillars are already being supported by existing organizations including Marshall County Economic Development Corporation and Lifelong Learning Network. Those established organizations will continue their important work and continue to answer to their board of directors; One Marshall County would serve as a tool and a resource to help streamline grant funding initiatives by helping coordinate efforts.
Crossroads was already established as a 501(c)3 entity; they have adopted the new name One Marshall County. Through the state it is called an “assumed business name” or “Doing Business As” (DBA).
No formal action was taken during the meeting in August, though support for One Marshall County was budgeted for 2024 to match (not replace) the current funding levels for Marshall County Economic Development Corporation.
There has been a meeting called by the Marshall County County Council for tonight to discuss One Marshall County at 6 p.m. ET in the second floor meeting room (Room 203) in the Marshall County Building at 211W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth. Houin informed the council that he will continue to provide updates moving forward.
