There was some discussion during Public Input regarding the appointment to the Purdue Extension Board.
Karen Richey – Extension Educator – Health and Human Sciences, and Brianna Slonaker – Extension Educator for Agriculture and Natural Resources approached the Council with a concern that the appointment to the Purdue Extension Board should be someone on the County Council or a Commissioner as opposed to a member of the public.
Councilwoman Nicole Cox informed the women that Josh Winrotte, Area 8 Director for Purdue Extension, authorized the addition of a Council appointee to the board without further stipulations. Richey indicated that a message from Winrotte to her was required to be a Council member or a Commissioner. Cox stated that the requirement was not specified. Cox volunteered. Bohannon moved to amend the appointment list to replace formerly appointed Harold Deidrich with Cox. His motion was seconded and approved.
Richey then specified that Cox would be a representative of the Council on the board and not a member of the Extension Board. Cox stated that she would call Winrotte for clarification.
In a follow up, Cox said she confirmed that as a representative of the board for the Council that she will have the same rights and follow the same guidelines as all other members of the Extension Board; she will also have the right to vote.
