Bourbon Town Council Hears Zoning and Planning, Fire Department Update

Susie Schaetzle, Bourbon Building Commissioner and Zoning Enforcement Officer, updated the Bourbon Town Council during their regular meeting on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) and the Plan Commission.

Schaetzle reported that the BZA is active conducting public hearings and are working well together.

The Plan Commission is continuing their work toward updating the Zoning Manual. Schaetzle hopes that project will be complete within the next two or three months.

The Council appointed Amy Middaugh and Tim McIntyre to the BZA; these recommendations came from Schaetzle who had already confirmed that they would be willing to serve.

Schaetzle sought the Council’s guidance on a document she prepared for distribution and publication regarding the expectations of rental property owners in Bourbon. Some of the items rental property owners, or prospective rental property owners might not be aware is that if the building or house is big enough to divide into more than one rental the Clerk’s Office can assign a new address after the $1,500 tap fee for a water meter is paid and a verification is conducted to confirm that no ordinances are being violated.

Other items discussed were the Parking Development Standards.

The Council approved the distribution of the revised and more detailed version of the flyer and to post it on social media and the Town of Bourbon website.

Attorney Alex Hoover is still working on the Solar Panel Ordinance.

Bourbon Fire Department Chief Chad Stepp reported six calls since last meeting. He informed the board that he will be traveling to Indianapolis February 26 with Firefighter Paul Martin who will be recognized for 50 years in Fire Service by the Indiana Fire Association.
