The Argos Town Council took action on an ordinance that pertains to trash rates when the council met last week.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that the town entered into a contract five years ago and the cost could go up as high as 10 percent or down as low as 10 percent. It increased six percent last year and the council did not raise rates. She said this year the price is going up four percent so the ordinance reflects that price increase.
She added that the town will be re-bidding the contract around June or July.
Mullaney was asked what the current trash rate was and she replied that it was about $19.20.
Council Vice President Ed Barcus noted that the increase is roughly 77 cents.
The ordinance was approved on all three readings.
