The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for La Porte, Marshall, Porter, St. Joseph, and Starke Counties that is in effect from 10 p.m. ET tonight (Thursday, January 18) to 7 a.m. ET Saturday (January 20). Pulaski County is under a Winter Weather Advisory.
Heavy lake effect snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches. Pulaski County could receive 3-5 inches of snow.
System snow tonight will transition to bands of heavy lake effect snow during the day on Friday. Intense snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour will be possible within dominant lake effect snow bands. Conditions can vary significantly over very short distances, going from flurries to whiteout conditions over the span of just a few miles.
Take caution when traveling and keep extra flashlights, food, and water in the vehicle just in case of an emergency.
