Plymouth Mayor Announces News Chief of Police

City of Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger announced Monday that Plymouth Police officer John Weir has accepted the position of Chief of Police. He will be taking over from David Bacon who is retiring.

Weir will begin in the position February 1, 2024.

Listenberger says officer Weir has displayed exemplary service as a Plymouth Police Officer since 1999. Before becoming a police officer, Weir joined the Army Reserve in 1988, where he earned multiple military awards, including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Marksman Rifle Badge, Sharpshooter .45 Pistol Badge, Expert 9MM Pistol Badge, and Expert Grenade Badge. Officer Wier served in Operation Desert Shield – Storm in 1990 and 1991.

Officer Wier is a member of Plymouth F.O.P. and has served as its vice president since 2005. From 2000 to 2005, he was a member of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department.

Officer Weir is married to Carey, and they have two children, Sydni and Colton.
