United Way of Marshall County is working with the local faith community, nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers to conduct a survey to collect data on homelessness and housing insecurities in Marshall County.
The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is an annual count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless people across the United States on a single day in January. This year’s count takes place on Wednesday, January 24. Local efforts will provide a “snapshot” of homelessness in Marshall County.
Families and individuals who have relied on the township trustee, churches, or charities to help them stay housed month-to-month are asked to participate in the PIT Count. Persons facing eviction, who rely on couch surfing, or feel they are forced to reside in an unsafe space are encouraged to make their voices heard. Multiple families staying in a single residence – not by choice – are asked to participate, too.
Individuals may go to the PIT Count locations on Wednesday, January 24. Specially-trained volunteers will be at each PIT Count location to help in the simple, quick process. Those locations include the Argos Public Library from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., First Faith Fellowship Church in Bourbon from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Grace Food Pantry in Bremen from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Bread of Life Food Pantry in Plymouth from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Plymouth from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.,Marshall County Neighborhood Center in Plymouth from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and the Red Rock Inn Lobby in Plymouth from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET.
