Two people were arrested Saturday, November 25 after leading Indiana State Police troopers on a pursuit through Fulton County and Marshall County.
Police say a trooper was patrolling on U.S. 31 in Fulton County at 3:23 p.m. ET when he saw a Toyota passenger vehicle that was previously reported to be traveling northbound on U.S. 31 without a rear tire. A traffic stop was initiated, but the driver fled from police at high speeds, reaching speeds of about 104 mph, according to the report.
The pursuit continued north on U.S. 31 to 13th Road in Marshall County where deputies had tire deflation devices set up across the roadway. The vehicle hit the devices which deflated two tires. The driver, later identified as a juvenile, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median near the U.S. 31 and Lincoln Highway overpass. The driver and passenger, 18-year-old Emmanuel Luna of Michigan, were taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.
An investigation found that the juvenile did not have a license and police say a handgun that was reported stolen out of Michigan was found inside the vehicle.
The juvenile was released to a parent. Luna was incarcerated at the Fulton County Jail. The juvenile was preliminarily charged with felony charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and theft of a firearm, along with misdemeanor charges of reckless driving in a highway work zone, reckless driving, and operator never licensed. Luna faces a preliminary felony charge of theft of a firearm.
The Indiana State Police Peru Post was assisted by the Indiana State Police Bremen Post, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth Police Department, Argos Police Department, and Lyons Towing.
Formal charges are pending and the incident remains under investigation.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
