The Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board members received an update on the West Township Trustee Cabin when they met November 2.
Board member Richard Markley shared that the work is completely finished. He brought forth the invoice for the work. They were being charged more than the original price but this is because more needed replaced than expected. The payment of the invoice was approved.
A dedication for the cabin is being planned. Markley and Board Secretary Deb VanDeMark have been discussing plaques for the cabin. One plaque would tell a bit about the history of the cabin. The other plaque would be for the Yoder’s Log and Timber in Nappanee who worked on the cabin.
Discussions were had about putting things on display in the cabin. They would like for there to be a display, but they do not want break-ins to happen.
There are dead trees that the board wants to remove from the Memorial Forest to make it look better. They are looking into opening a public bid for people who would want the wood.
There is also interest in using some of this wood to build the pavilion in the park.
