Bourbon Town Council Approves Resignations and Hires for Police Department

The Bourbon Town Council approved resignations and offers of employment requested by Bourbon Police Department Chief William “Bill” Martin.

Assistant Police Chief Carl Amsden and Officer Timothy Hubbard submitted letters of resignation with a desire to remain on part-time. The Council approved.

The Council also approved Chief Martin’s request to make a conditional offer of full-time employment to Ethan Berry and Matthew Craig.

The Council also approved Chief Martin’s request to place Travis Shively of Kosciusko County on as a part-time police officer.

The Council also approved Chief Martin’s request to move Reserve Officer Ray Gleason to part-time status. Gleason will commit to three shifts a week.

The Council also approved Chief Martin’s request to place Kevin and Shelly Smith of Etna Green on the Reserves for the police department.

Town of Bourbon Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger raised concerns that a new law limits the full-time officer – reserve ratio.

Attorney Alex Hoover will look in to the issue and inform Chief Martin.

Chief Martin also thanked the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the Fire Department, the Water Department, Berger and Maci Helton along with the Town Council for assisting and being supportive during the staffing crisis that the Bourbon Police Department was facing.
